We are currently between training sessions, with our next series of CERT classes scheduled to begin in Fall 2026.
These classes are typically held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Training Room at Fire Station #6, 2740 25th Street SE, Salem. If you are interested in joining our next cohort, we encourage you to join our waiting list to receive the full schedule and enrollment forms as soon as they are released.

These classes are provided by the City of Salem CERT, under the auspices of the Salem Fire Department, and there is no charge to participate. To become certified, participants must attend all sessions in the series.
The curriculum covers essential disaster response skills, including:
- Personal Preparedness: Building kits and family plans.
- CERT Organization: How we work with professional first responders.
- Disaster Medical Operations: Life-saving first aid and triage.
- Disaster Psychology: Managing the emotional impact of a crisis.
- Fire Safety & Utility Controls: Small fire suppression and utility shut-offs.
- Light Search & Rescue: Safe techniques for searching and moving victims.
- CERT & Terrorism: Identifying hazards and maintaining situational awareness.
The series concludes with a mock disaster drill, allowing students to practice their skills in a realistic, controlled environment alongside veteran CERT members.
